Combine with a queenright hive

Merge the drone-laying colony with a strong, queenright hive using the newspaper method. The functional queen and her workers will take over the combined population, and the drone-laying queen will be eliminated by the bees naturally.

Why It Works

Bees from the queenright colony recognize the pheromone difference and will supersede or kill the failing queen. The newspaper barrier allows the two colonies to gradually acclimate to each other's scent, reducing fighting. The strong queen maintains normal brood production for the merged colony.

Tips

• Place the queenright hive on the bottom and the drone-laying colony on top, separated by a single sheet of newspaper with a few small slits
• Remove the drone-laying queen before combining for faster acceptance
• Choose a strong colony with at least 5-6 frames of bees for the merge
• Inspect after 5-7 days to confirm the queen is laying a normal worker brood pattern
