Ensure Proper Keyboard and Mouse Placement

3

Positioning your keyboard and mouse correctly prevents hunching and reaching, keeping shoulders and wrists in a neutral posture.

Steps

  1. Place the keyboard directly in front of you, close enough that elbows stay bent at roughly 90 degrees and tucked near your sides.
  2. Keep wrists straight — not bent up, down, or sideways — while typing.
  3. Position the mouse close to the keyboard so you don't reach or twist your shoulder to use it.
  4. Rest forearms roughly parallel to the floor.

Tips

  • A palm rest (supporting the heel of the palm, not the wrist joint) can reduce forearm strain during pauses.
  • Switching mouse hand occasionally helps balance repetitive-use stress.
