Ensure Proper Keyboard and Mouse Placement
3
Positioning your keyboard and mouse correctly prevents hunching and reaching, keeping shoulders and wrists in a neutral posture.
Steps
- Place the keyboard directly in front of you, close enough that elbows stay bent at roughly 90 degrees and tucked near your sides.
- Keep wrists straight — not bent up, down, or sideways — while typing.
- Position the mouse close to the keyboard so you don't reach or twist your shoulder to use it.
- Rest forearms roughly parallel to the floor.
Tips
- A palm rest (supporting the heel of the palm, not the wrist joint) can reduce forearm strain during pauses.
- Switching mouse hand occasionally helps balance repetitive-use stress.
