Get Down on Child's Level and Check Regularly
4
Description
Seeing the environment from a child's perspective helps identify overlooked hazards. Regular checks are needed as children grow.
Recipe/Instructions
- Crawl Around: Literally get down on your hands and knees and crawl around the rooms your child accesses. Look for hazards from their vantage point: small objects on the floor, accessible cords, sharp corners at head level, unstable furniture they might pull up on.
- Test Latches/Gates: Regularly check that safety latches, gates, and covers are functioning correctly and securely installed.
- Re-evaluate as Child Grows: As children grow taller, become more mobile, and develop new skills (like climbing or opening things), reassess your childproofing measures. Hazards change as the child's abilities change.
