Wine or Beer Trap

Similar to the vinegar trap, leave a small amount of stale wine or beer in an open bottle or jar. Fruit flies are attracted to the fermenting sugars. Add a few drops of dish soap to ensure they sink. The narrow neck of a bottle can also make it harder for them to escape.
