Use a vinegar-water solution with a squeegee or microfiber cloth
4
Mix equal parts white vinegar and distilled water in a spray bottle for a streak-free glass cleaner that leaves no residue. Distilled water prevents mineral deposits from hard tap water. Add one drop of dish soap only if windows are heavily soiled.
Steps
- Spray the solution lightly onto the glass. Avoid cleaning in direct sunlight, which dries the cleaner too fast and causes streaks.
- Squeegee method: Pull a rubber squeegee firmly from top to bottom in overlapping strokes. Wipe the blade with a lint-free cloth after each pass.
- Microfiber method: Wipe with a glass-specific microfiber cloth in consistent horizontal or vertical strokes, then buff immediately with a second dry microfiber cloth.
- Wipe corners and edges with a cotton swab or the corner of your cloth.
Why It Works
Vinegar's acetic acid (typically 5%) dissolves mineral deposits, grease, and grime without leaving a soapy film. Squeegees and microfiber cloths lift liquid cleanly off the glass rather than spreading residue around.
Tips
- Too much dish soap is the most common mistake — it leaves a film that causes streaks
- Replace microfiber cloths once they feel slick or stop absorbing well
