Use a vinegar-water solution with a squeegee or microfiber cloth

4

Mix equal parts white vinegar and distilled water in a spray bottle for a streak-free glass cleaner that leaves no residue. Distilled water prevents mineral deposits from hard tap water. Add one drop of dish soap only if windows are heavily soiled.

Steps

  1. Spray the solution lightly onto the glass. Avoid cleaning in direct sunlight, which dries the cleaner too fast and causes streaks.
  2. Squeegee method: Pull a rubber squeegee firmly from top to bottom in overlapping strokes. Wipe the blade with a lint-free cloth after each pass.
  3. Microfiber method: Wipe with a glass-specific microfiber cloth in consistent horizontal or vertical strokes, then buff immediately with a second dry microfiber cloth.
  4. Wipe corners and edges with a cotton swab or the corner of your cloth.

Why It Works

Vinegar's acetic acid (typically 5%) dissolves mineral deposits, grease, and grime without leaving a soapy film. Squeegees and microfiber cloths lift liquid cleanly off the glass rather than spreading residue around.

Tips

  • Too much dish soap is the most common mistake — it leaves a film that causes streaks
  • Replace microfiber cloths once they feel slick or stop absorbing well
