Apply freezing spray to harden and remove gum from fabric
3
Spray a commercial aerosol freezing product directly onto gum stuck to fabric or upholstery to instantly harden it, then chip it away. This is faster than the ice-cube method and works well on surfaces where applying ice is awkward.
Steps
- Hold the can upright and spray the freezing agent directly onto the gum for 3-5 seconds until it turns white and brittle.
- Immediately scrape the hardened gum off with a dull knife or plastic scraper, lifting from the edges inward.
- Brush away any small fragments with a stiff-bristled brush.
- If residue remains, repeat the freeze-and-scrape cycle.
Tips
- Products labeled as electronics duster (compressed difluoroethane) or medical cold spray both work
- Use in a well-ventilated area and avoid prolonged skin contact with the spray
- Act quickly after spraying because the gum re-softens within 15-20 seconds as it warms back up
