Smooth wrinkles with a hair dryer or flat iron

2

A hair dryer or hair straightener can stand in for an iron in a pinch. Lightly mist the wrinkled area with water and direct warm air over it, or carefully press small sections like collars and cuffs with a flat iron on its lowest setting.

Steps

  1. Hair dryer: Hang the garment or lay it flat. Mist the wrinkled area with water. Hold the dryer a few inches away on medium heat and move it steadily while smoothing the fabric with your other hand.
  2. Flat iron: Make sure the plates are clean. Set it to the lowest heat appropriate for the fabric. Pass it quickly over small areas like collars, cuffs, or seams. Do not hold it in one spot -- this can scorch the fabric.

Tips

  • The hair dryer method is safer and works on most fabrics
  • Reserve the flat iron for small, stubborn areas on sturdy fabrics like cotton
  • Avoid using a flat iron on synthetics, silk, or anything that melts at low heat
