Reduce Interference & Change Wi-Fi Channel

3

Description

Other electronic devices and neighboring Wi-Fi networks can interfere with your signal, especially on the crowded 2.4GHz band. Changing channels can help.

Recipe/Instructions

  1. Identify Interference: Keep the router away from potential sources of interference like microwave ovens, older cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, and large metal objects.
  2. Analyze Channels: Use a Wi-Fi analyzer app on your smartphone or computer to see which Wi-Fi channels are most used by nearby networks.
  3. Change Channel: Log into your router's admin settings. Go to the Wireless settings section. For the 2.4GHz band, manually select a channel that is less crowded (typically channels 1, 6, or 11 are best as they don't overlap). For the 5GHz band, channel congestion is usually less of an issue, but you can try different channels if needed.
  4. Save the settings and test the connection.
