Trim the longer legs to level
3
Place the furniture on a known level surface and shim the short leg until stable. Measure the shim thickness — that tells you how much material to remove from the longer legs. Mark carefully and cut with a fine-toothed saw, then sand the cut ends smooth.
Why It Works
This is a permanent fix that addresses uneven legs directly by making them all the same length. Once trimmed correctly, the furniture sits flat on any level surface without shims or add-ons.
Tips
- Measure and mark three times before cutting — you cannot add wood back
- Use a fine-toothed hand saw or Japanese pull saw for the cleanest cut
- Only use this fix on flat surfaces — if the wobble is caused by an uneven floor, leveling feet are the better solution
- Apply a finish or sealant to freshly cut end grain to prevent moisture absorption
