Clear the clog with baking soda and vinegar

4

Pour half a cup of baking soda into the drain, follow with half a cup of white vinegar, and cover the opening for 15-30 minutes. The fizzing reaction helps break down grease, hair, and soap buildup. Flush with a full kettle of boiling water to wash the loosened debris away.

Why It Works

Baking soda is a mild base and vinegar is an acid. Combined, they produce carbon dioxide gas that agitates and loosens organic blockages. The boiling water flush melts any remaining grease and carries it through the pipe.

Tips

  • Repeat the process a second time for stubborn partial clogs
  • Works best on slow-draining sinks rather than fully blocked pipes
  • Avoid using on PVC pipes with boiling water -- use very hot tap water instead to prevent softening the joints
