Check the Wiring Connections

4

Loose or deteriorated wiring connections within a light fixture, switch box, or junction box can cause intermittent contact and flickering. This is a potential fire hazard and should be taken seriously.

Steps

  1. Turn off the circuit breaker controlling the affected fixture before touching anything.
  2. Use a non-contact voltage tester to confirm the power is off.
  3. Remove the fixture cover or switch plate and visually inspect for loose, scorched, or corroded wire connections.
  4. If you find a loose wire nut or terminal, tighten or reseat it.
  5. Restore power and test the light.

Safety Warning

If you are not confident working with household wiring, hire a licensed electrician. Flickering across multiple fixtures on different circuits may indicate a loose neutral connection at the panel, which is dangerous and must be repaired by a professional.
