Check the Wiring Connections
4
Loose or deteriorated wiring connections within a light fixture, switch box, or junction box can cause intermittent contact and flickering. This is a potential fire hazard and should be taken seriously.
Steps
- Turn off the circuit breaker controlling the affected fixture before touching anything.
- Use a non-contact voltage tester to confirm the power is off.
- Remove the fixture cover or switch plate and visually inspect for loose, scorched, or corroded wire connections.
- If you find a loose wire nut or terminal, tighten or reseat it.
- Restore power and test the light.
Safety Warning
If you are not confident working with household wiring, hire a licensed electrician. Flickering across multiple fixtures on different circuits may indicate a loose neutral connection at the panel, which is dangerous and must be repaired by a professional.
