Communicate an allergy management plan with the school
4
What to Do
Provide your child's school with a written allergy management plan that includes medications, triggers, and emergency contacts. Many schools require a physician authorization form for medications to be kept on-site.
Why It Works
Children spend 6-8 hours at school, much of it during peak pollen hours. Teachers and school nurses need to know your child's triggers, medications, and when to take action. Without a plan, a child may suffer through the school day unable to concentrate or access their medication.
Tips
- Request that classroom windows be kept closed during pollen season
- Ask that your child sit away from open windows or exterior doors
- Ensure the child can access their antihistamine or nasal spray during the school day
- Update the plan annually with current medications and trigger information
