Deploy pheromone traps to monitor for moths and beetles

What to Do

Place Indian meal moth pheromone traps (e.g., Terro Pantry Moth Traps, Dr. Killigan's) inside your pantry. These sticky traps use a sex pheromone to attract adult male moths. Check and replace traps every 2-3 months.

Why It Works

Pheromone traps catch adult males before they can mate, reducing the next generation. More importantly, they serve as an early warning system — catching even one moth tells you an infestation is active before it becomes severe.

Tips

• Traps catch Indian meal moths specifically; different pheromones exist for different species
• If traps keep catching moths after cleanup, you've missed an infested item — search again
• Place traps on the shelf, not on the ceiling — moths fly at shelf level inside pantries
• Traps alone won't eliminate an infestation; pair with cleanup and airtight storage
