Try advanced shots: Erne and ATP
3
The Erne and Around-the-Post (ATP) are specialty shots that catch opponents off guard. They aren't beginner essentials but are exciting to learn once fundamentals are solid.
The Erne
Named after Erne Perry who popularized it in 2010. You jump over the corner of the kitchen or run through and establish both feet outside the sideline, then volley the ball from outside the court. When executed correctly, it's nearly impossible to defend.
The ATP (Around the Post)
When pulled wide off the court by an opponent's shot, hit the ball around the net post (not over it) and into the opponent's court. The ball can travel below net height since it doesn't cross over the net.
Tips
- For the ATP, patience is key — let the ball travel far enough to open the necessary angle
- Stay low and use an open stance for balance on both shots
- The "Cookie Jar" is when you Erne an ATP shot — the ultimate highlight reel play
