Scald appropriately for plucking
5
Solution
Scald the carcass in hot water (around 145-155°F or 63-68°C) for 1-2 minutes to loosen feathers.
Explanation
Geese have tough feathers and down. Proper scalding is crucial for easier plucking. Water temperature and time are critical – too cool and feathers won't loosen, too hot or too long and the skin may cook or tear easily. Adding a drop of dish soap can help water penetrate feathers.
Notes
A large pot or scalder is needed. Test feather pull to gauge readiness.
