Paste the text and request a specific summary format

Copy the full text into the AI chat and specify exactly what you need: "Summarize this in 5 bullet points," "Give me a one-paragraph executive summary," or "List the three main arguments." Being explicit about format and length produces dramatically better results than just saying "summarize this."

Format constraints force the AI to prioritize and compress information. Without them, summaries tend to be too long or miss what matters most to you.

Tips

• For very long texts, break them into sections and summarize each separately
• Ask "What are the key takeaways for someone who needs to make a decision about X?" to get targeted summaries
• Follow up with "What did I miss?" to catch important details the summary may have omitted
