Use WPA3 encryption with a strong password
5
In your router settings, set the wireless security to WPA3 (or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode if some devices do not support WPA3). Set a strong Wi-Fi password of at least 12 characters. Never use WEP or leave the network open.
Why It Works
WPA3 is the latest and most secure Wi-Fi encryption standard. It protects your data in transit and makes it significantly harder for attackers to crack your password through brute force, even if they capture network traffic.
Tips
- If your router does not support WPA3, WPA2-AES is still secure — avoid WPA2-TKIP
- Use a passphrase for your Wi-Fi password: "sunny-garden-blue-42" is strong and easy to share with guests
- If your router is more than 5 years old and only supports WEP or WPA, it is time to replace it
- Check for WPA3 support in your router's wireless security settings
