Create memorable passphrases instead of complex passwords
5
Use a passphrase of 4-6 random words separated by hyphens: "purple-bridge-seventeen-candle" is far stronger than "P@ssw0rd123!" and much easier to remember. Add a number or symbol between words for extra strength.
Why It Works
Length matters more than complexity. A 4-word passphrase has more entropy (randomness) than a short complex password. Attackers crack short complex passwords in minutes but would need centuries for a long passphrase.
Tips
- Use truly random words — not song lyrics, quotes, or personal information
- The Diceware method uses dice to pick words from a list for true randomness
- Use passphrases for the few passwords you must actually remember (master password, device lock)
- For everything else, let your password manager generate random strings
