Choose Nigerian Dwarf Goats
5
Select Nigerian Dwarf goats as your primary miniature dairy breed. They stand under 22.5 inches tall yet produce 1-2 quarts of milk per day with 6-10% butterfat — roughly double the butterfat of standard dairy breeds. This rich, sweet milk is ideal for cheese, yogurt, and soap making.
Why It Works
Nigerian Dwarfs were selectively bred for dairy production at a compact size. Their year-round breeding ability allows staggered freshenings, enabling a continuous milk supply across seasons. They are registered by both ADGA and AGS as a recognized dairy breed.
Tips
- Start with at least two does from ADGA-registered lines with proven milk records
- Plan breedings 6 months apart to maintain year-round production
- Expect peak production of up to 3 quarts/day from high-producing lines
