Essential oils (prophylactic)
Certain essential oils, such as lemongrass and thyme oil, are explored for their potential prophylactic (preventative) benefits against Nosema disease. These oils have antimicrobial properties and may help to suppress Nosema spore development or boost bee immunity. They are typically added to sugar syrup or pollen feed as a preventative measure. However, the scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of essential oils against Nosema is debated, and results can be inconsistent. Essential oils are not considered a primary treatment for active Nosema infections but may play a role in supporting colony health and resilience. Use essential oils cautiously and in conjunction with other good management practices. A syrup mixing container is needed to prepare medicated feed.
