Amend heavy clay or compacted soil with compost and other organic matter to improve its structure and drainage. For persistent waterlogging, switch to raised beds or containers filled with a well-draining soil mix. Why It Works

Organic matter opens up pore space in dense soil, allowing water to infiltrate and drain rather than pool at the surface. Raised beds give you full control over soil composition and naturally shed excess moisture through their sides and bottom.
