Dissolve limescale with a vinegar soak

5

Wrap affected faucets or showerheads in a cloth soaked with undiluted white vinegar, or fill a plastic bag with vinegar and tie it so the buildup is submerged. Leave for 15–60 minutes depending on severity, then scrub with a toothbrush or non-abrasive sponge and rinse.

Why It Works

Acetic acid in white vinegar reacts with calcium carbonate, the main component of limescale, dissolving it on contact. Longer soak times handle heavier deposits without harsh scrubbing.

Tips

  • Do not use on natural stone (marble, granite, travertine) — the acid etches the surface permanently
  • For stubborn buildup, repeat the soak or use undiluted cleaning-strength vinegar (6% acidity)
  • Warm vinegar works faster than cold
