Deodorize with baking soda
4
Place an open box or bowl of baking soda on a middle shelf to neutralize fridge odors. Sodium bicarbonate chemically reacts with acidic odor molecules, eliminating smells rather than masking them.
Steps
- Empty the fridge and discard any spoiled food.
- Wipe all interior surfaces with 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda per quart of warm water.
- Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly.
- Place an open box or small bowl of fresh baking soda on a middle shelf.
- Replace the baking soda every 2-3 months for continued effectiveness.
Tips
- For strong odors, use two boxes — one on the top shelf and one in the bottom drawer.
- Seal food in airtight containers to prevent future odor buildup.
