Use Gloves, Bread/Tape, Sweep & Vacuum

5

Description

This multi-step method ensures both large shards and tiny, hard-to-see slivers are safely removed.

Recipe/Instructions

  1. Safety First: Put on thick protective gloves (work gloves or heavy rubber gloves) and sturdy shoes before starting.
  2. Large Pieces: Carefully pick up the largest pieces of glass and place them onto several layers of newspaper or into a sturdy cardboard box.
  3. Small Slivers: Gently press a slice of soft bread, a damp, folded paper towel, or a piece of wide duct tape (sticky side down) over the area where the glass broke. The tiny fragments will stick to these materials. Dispose of the bread/towel/tape carefully with the larger shards.
  4. Sweep: Sweep the area thoroughly with a broom and dustpan, moving from the outside edges of the spill towards the center.
  5. Vacuum: Vacuum the entire area carefully, including crevices and surrounding spots, to pick up any remaining microscopic particles. Empty the vacuum cleaner bag or canister immediately afterward into the disposal container.
  6. Disposal: Seal the newspaper bundle, cardboard box, or a thick plastic bag containing all the glass securely. Label it 'Broken Glass' and dispose of it according to local regulations.
