Boil Vinegar/Water then Add Baking Soda

5

Description

This technique uses acidic vinegar and the fizzing reaction of baking soda to lift burnt material.

Recipe/Instructions

  1. Pour equal parts white vinegar and water into the pot or pan, enough to cover the burnt area by about an inch.
  2. Place the cookware on the stove and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
  3. Boil for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Carefully remove the pot/pan from the heat and place it in a sink (or on a heat-resistant surface).
  5. Add 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to the hot liquid. It will fizz vigorously.
  6. Let the mixture cool for 15-30 minutes.
  7. Discard the liquid and scrub the pan with a non-abrasive sponge or scraper. The burnt food should come off much more easily.
  8. Wash as usual with soap and water.
