Reduce display brightness and disable unused radios
4
Lower your screen brightness to the minimum comfortable level and turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and keyboard backlighting when not in use. These are the largest passive power drains on any laptop.
Why It Works
The display backlight is typically the single biggest power consumer after the CPU, drawing 2-4 watts at full brightness versus under 1 watt at low settings. Wireless radios constantly scan for signals even when idle, adding unnecessary drain.
Tips
- Use the Fn key shortcuts on your keyboard for quick brightness and radio toggles
- Airplane mode is the fastest way to kill all radios at once
- Dark mode on OLED screens saves additional power since black pixels are fully off
