Replace overlong cables with correctly sized ones

Excess cable length is the biggest contributor to desk and TV clutter. Measure the actual distance between each device and its connection point, then replace oversized cables with ones that match the needed length.

Why It Works

A 6-foot HDMI cable where 2 feet would suffice creates 4 feet of slack that has to be coiled, bundled, or stuffed somewhere. Eliminating that slack at the source means less material to manage and a naturally cleaner look with minimal effort.

Tips

• Measure each run and add just 6-8 inches of slack for flexibility
• Replace power cables last, since short power cords paired with a well-placed power strip often solve the problem
• Combine this approach with Velcro ties for any remaining slack
