Use Level, Anchors/Studs, Tape Guide & Two Hooks

4

Description

This method combines leveling, proper fastening, and alignment techniques for a secure and straight picture hang.

Recipe/Instructions

  1. Determine Location: Decide where you want to hang the picture.
  2. Locate Studs (Optional): If the frame is heavy, use a stud finder to locate wall studs for maximum support. If no stud is available, plan to use appropriate wall anchors (e.g., drywall anchors).
  3. Marking: Hold the frame against the wall at the desired height. Place a level on top of the frame and adjust until level. Make a light pencil mark on the wall at the center top of the frame.
  4. Find Hook Points: Measure the distance from the top of the frame to the hanging wire/hook(s) on the back when the wire is pulled taut.
  5. Transfer Marks: Measure down from your center top mark on the wall by the distance measured in step 4. This is your target height for the nail/hook.
  6. Tape Trick (for two hooks): Place a piece of painter's tape across the back of the frame, sticking it over the two hanging points. Mark the exact location of the hook centers on the tape. Remove the tape and place it on the wall at the target height, using the level to ensure it's straight. Your marks on the tape show exactly where to put the nails/hooks.
  7. Install Fasteners: Hammer in picture hanging hooks or nails at the marked spot(s). If using anchors, drill pilot holes and install anchors first, then insert screws or hooks.
  8. Hang Picture: Carefully hang the picture frame wire/hooks onto the installed wall hooks/nails.
  9. Final Check: Use the level one last time on the frame to confirm it's straight.
