Install a picture rail system for flexible, hole-free rearranging

A picture rail is molding mounted near the ceiling from which frames hang on adjustable wires or cords. It lets you rearrange art without making new holes.

Steps

1. Locate wall studs near the ceiling with a stud finder.
2. Cut the picture rail molding to length and pre-drill to prevent splitting.
3. Screw the molding into the studs, using a level to keep it straight.
4. Attach picture-hanging wire to the back of each frame.
5. Slide rail hooks onto the molding at the desired positions.
6. Loop the wire over the hooks and adjust the cord length to set the hanging height.

Why It Works

The rail distributes load across multiple stud-mounted screws, handling heavy frames safely. Repositioning only requires sliding a hook, not drilling a new hole.

Tips

• Use braided steel wire for heavy frames; nylon cord suits lighter pieces.
