Wipe furniture with a dryer sheet to loosen pet hair

Rub a used or fresh fabric softener sheet across upholstered surfaces. The hair loosens and clings to the sheet, making it easy to collect. Follow up by wiping the surface with a damp hand or vacuuming to pick up any remaining hair.

Why It Works

Dryer sheets are coated with anti-static compounds that neutralize the static charge holding pet hair to fabric. Once the static bond is broken, hair releases from upholstery and is easier to gather.

Tips

• Used dryer sheets work nearly as well as fresh ones and cost nothing extra
• This method doubles as a light freshener for furniture
• Not ideal for heavy hair buildup -- better as a maintenance step between deeper cleanings
