Soak glassware in white vinegar to dissolve mineral deposits
5
Fill a basin or sink with equal parts white vinegar and warm water, then submerge the stained glassware for 30-60 minutes. For heavier buildup, use undiluted vinegar. After soaking, scrub lightly with a soft sponge and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Why It Works
The acetic acid in white vinegar (typically 5% concentration) reacts with calcium carbonate and other mineral deposits that make up hard water stains, dissolving them on contact. Longer soaking times allow the acid to penetrate thicker buildup.
Tips
- Warm vinegar works faster than cold -- gently heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds before soaking
- For narrow vases or bottles, fill them with vinegar and let them sit overnight
- Rinse well afterward to avoid a lingering vinegar smell
