Ingredients
1 loaf Cuban bread (or French/Italian substitute)
4 tbsp yellow mustard
½ lb sliced Swiss cheese
½ lb thinly sliced dill pickles
¾ lb thinly sliced roasted pork
½ lb thinly sliced baked ham
4 tbsp softened butter
A perfectly balanced pressed sandwich where tangy mustard, sour pickles, savory roast pork, sweet ham, and nutty Swiss cheese meld together on crusty Cuban bread under heat and pressure. Every bite delivers crunch, tang, and richness simultaneously.
Instructions
- Build the sandwich: Slice bread horizontally and cut into 6-8 inch portions. Spread mustard generously on both halves. Layer roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and pickles on the bottom half. Close.
- Butter the outside: Spread softened butter on the top and bottom of each sandwich.
- Press and cook: Using a panini press: cook 5-8 minutes until cheese melts and bread is golden and crispy. Using a skillet: cook over medium heat with a heavy weight on top, 3-5 minutes per side, pressing firmly.
- Slice and serve: Cut diagonally and serve immediately.
Tips
- Authentic Cuban bread has a thin, crispy crust and soft interior; French bread is the best substitute
- Leftover Lechón Asado makes the best pork filling
- The layering order matters — cheese should be next to bread so it melts and seals everything together
