Press out water gently — never wring or twist
5
After the final rinse, press the garment between your palms to squeeze out excess water. For more absorbency, lay the garment flat on a clean dry towel, roll the towel up, and press down firmly to wick moisture out. Never wring or twist the fabric.
Why It Works
Wringing and twisting stretch wet fibers out of shape, especially in knits, silk, and wool. Wet fabric is weaker than dry fabric and more susceptible to permanent distortion. The towel-rolling technique removes water through gentle, even pressure without stretching or warping the garment.
Tips
- Use a thick, absorbent bath towel for best results
- Repeat with a second dry towel for heavy items like sweaters
- For a family's worth of hand-washed items, keep several clean towels on hand for rolling
