Match your detergent to your wash temperature
4
Choose a detergent formulated for the water temperature you use most. Cold-water detergents contain enzymes specifically engineered to activate at low temperatures, while standard detergents may not clean as effectively below 65°F.
Why It Works
Enzyme activity is temperature-dependent. Standard detergents often contain enzymes optimized for warm water that become sluggish in cold. Cold-water formulas use specially selected enzyme strains and additional surfactants to compensate. Using the right detergent for your typical water temperature improves cleaning results.
Tips
- If you wash primarily in cold water, a cold-water formula will deliver noticeably better results
- Liquid detergents dissolve more readily in cold water than powders
- Pods and tablets are pre-measured and generally perform well across all temperatures
- Powder detergents work best in warm or hot water where they fully dissolve
