Identify and address the underlying trigger
5
Review what happened 2-3 months before the shedding started. Common triggers include major stress, illness, surgery, crash dieting, medication changes, or hormonal shifts. Once identified, work to resolve or manage that trigger directly.
Why It Works
Telogen effluvium is a reactive condition — hair follicles shift into the resting phase in response to a specific shock. Removing or resolving the trigger allows the hair cycle to normalize on its own, typically within 6-9 months.
Tips
- Keep a timeline of major events, diet changes, and medications from the past 6 months
- Multiple triggers can overlap, making identification harder
- If no clear trigger is found, see a dermatologist to rule out other conditions
