Supplement with iron (if deficient)
4
Ask your doctor for a ferritin blood test. If levels are below 30-40 ng/mL, supplement with iron as directed — typically ferrous sulfate 325mg taken with vitamin C to improve absorption. Retest after 3 months.
Why It Works
Low ferritin (stored iron) is a common contributing factor in female hair loss, even when hemoglobin is normal. Restoring ferritin to optimal levels (above 70 ng/mL) can significantly reduce shedding and support regrowth in iron-deficient women.
Tips
- Do not supplement without testing first — excess iron is harmful
- Take iron on an empty stomach for best absorption; take with food if it causes nausea
- Avoid calcium, coffee, and tea within 2 hours of your iron dose
