What to Do
Take one loratadine 10mg tablet daily. It is the least sedating OTC antihistamine, making it ideal for daytime use when alertness matters.
Why It Works
Loratadine blocks H1 histamine receptors with very low blood-brain barrier penetration. It causes drowsiness at the same rate as placebo in clinical trials. Onset is 1-3 hours with 24-hour duration. Slightly less potent than cetirizine but better tolerated.
