Place interceptor traps under bed legs

What to Do

Place bed bug interceptor traps under all four legs of the bed and under furniture legs near sleeping areas. These are shallow moat-like devices with a rough outer surface that bed bugs can climb into but a smooth inner surface they cannot escape from. Check traps weekly.

Why It Works

Interceptors exploit bed bugs' inability to climb smooth surfaces. They serve dual purposes: detection (confirming bed bugs are present before expensive treatment) and monitoring (tracking whether control measures are working). Leave in place for at least 21 days for reliable detection.

• Minimum 12 interceptors for a typical two-bedroom home
• DIY interceptors: UF/IFAS Extension provides instructions using two nested plastic containers with talcum powder on inner surfaces
• Commercial options like ClimbUp interceptors cost $5-10 each
• Clean traps regularly to maintain the smooth surface
