Isolate the bed from walls and nearby furniture

4

What to Do

Pull the bed at least 6 inches away from all walls. Ensure sheets, blankets, and bed skirts do not touch the floor or drape onto nearby furniture. Remove nightstands or create gaps between them and the bed. Install interceptor traps under all bed legs.

Why It Works

Bed bugs cannot fly or jump — they reach sleeping humans by climbing. Isolating the bed forces them to travel through interceptor traps on the bed legs, where they become trapped. Combined with encasements, this creates a monitored barrier that both catches bugs and proves whether the infestation is controlled.

Tips

  • Tuck sheets tightly so nothing hangs over the bed edge
  • Do not lean pillows or blankets against the wall
  • Remove any clutter stored under the bed
  • If the bed frame has a headboard attached to the wall, either detach it or seal the gap with tape
  • This simple step makes interceptor traps and encasements dramatically more effective
