Spray nests at dusk with pressurized wasp killer

4

Steps

  1. Wait until dusk or very early morning when wasps are inside the nest and less active.
  2. Wear long sleeves, pants tucked into boots, gloves, and a hat.
  3. Stand 15-20 feet away and spray directly into the nest entrance, soaking it thoroughly.
  4. Retreat immediately and monitor from a safe distance.
  5. If no activity after 24 hours, knock down the nest and seal it in a trash bag.

Why It Works

Pressurized wasp sprays deliver insecticide from a safe distance and kill on contact. Treating at dusk ensures most colony members are inside the nest. Early spring nests (golf-ball size) are the easiest and safest to treat before colonies reach peak size in summer.

Tips

  • Never attempt during daytime when foragers are active and aggressive
  • Choose products with a "Caution" signal word (least toxic category)
  • For ground-nesting yellow jackets, use insecticide dust applied into the entrance at night instead
  • If the nest is larger than a softball or in a wall void, call a professional
