Apply IGR plus adulticide combination spray indoors
5
Steps
- Vacuum thoroughly, then remove pets and children from the area
- Apply a spray containing both an adulticide (permethrin or bifenthrin) and an IGR (insect growth regulator — methoprene or pyriproxyfen) to all carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, and baseboards
- Products like Precor 2000 Plus or Siphotrol Plus contain both active ingredients
- Allow surfaces to dry completely (2-4 hours) before allowing pets and people back in
Why It Works
The adulticide kills existing adult fleas on contact. The IGR prevents eggs and larvae from developing into biting adults for up to 7 months, breaking the life cycle even as new eggs hatch from the existing population.
Tips
- One application of an IGR-containing spray is usually sufficient for the season
- Without an IGR, you'll need to re-spray repeatedly as new adults emerge from pupae over 2-3 months
- Flea bombs/foggers are less effective than targeted sprays because the mist doesn't penetrate under furniture
