Apply diatomaceous earth in crevices and corners
3
What to Do
Using a bulb duster, apply a thin layer of food-grade diatomaceous earth in cracks, crevices, along baseboards, behind furniture, and in undisturbed areas where spiders travel. Focus on areas where you have seen spiders or webs.
Why It Works
DE damages the spider's exoskeleton through physical abrasion, causing dehydration and death. Because it is a mechanical killer, spiders cannot develop resistance. DE remains effective indefinitely as long as it stays dry and undisturbed, providing long-term passive protection in hidden areas.
Tips
- Apply a thin, barely visible layer — spiders avoid heavy deposits
- Must remain completely dry to work
- Use only food-grade DE, never pool-grade
- Wear a dust mask during application
- DE is a slow-acting supplemental tool, not a primary spider control method
- Best used in combination with exclusion, decluttering, and web removal
