Vacuum thoroughly before and after indoor treatment

5

What to Do

Vacuum all carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, and along baseboards before applying any indoor flea treatment. Vacuum again 24 hours after treatment and continue vacuuming every other day for at least two weeks. Dispose of the vacuum bag or empty the canister into a sealed outdoor trash bag each time.

Why It Works

Vacuuming removes 50-90% of flea eggs from carpets and triggers pre-adult fleas to emerge from their cocoons, exposing them to insecticide. Flea pupae in cocoons are impervious to all insecticides — vibration from vacuuming is the only way to force them out.

Tips

  • Focus on areas where pets sleep and under furniture where debris accumulates
  • Vacuum hardwood floor cracks too — flea eggs settle into gaps between boards
  • Steam cleaning carpets (140°F+) kills all flea life stages on contact
