Set Up a Secure Coop and Run

5

Solution

Build or purchase a coop that provides adequate space, ventilation, roosting bars, nesting boxes, and is secure from predators.

Explanation

The coop is the chickens' home and must protect them from weather and predators (raccoons, hawks, foxes, dogs, etc.). It needs sufficient space (2-4 sq ft/bird inside), roosts for sleeping, and nesting boxes (1 per 3-4 hens) for laying eggs. An attached outdoor run (8-10 sq ft/bird) allows safe foraging.

Notes

Ensure all openings are covered with hardware cloth (not chicken wire) for better predator protection. Elevating the coop can deter rodents.
