Select Chinese Geese

Choose Chinese geese (white or brown varieties) for the highest egg output among goose breeds. They lay 40 to 100 eggs per year, far outpacing most other breeds. They are active foragers and their loud calls double as an effective alarm system against intruders.

Why It Works

Chinese geese descend from the wild Swan Goose and retain strong laying genetics. Their lighter body weight (4-5 kg) means more energy is directed toward egg production rather than body mass. Decades of selective breeding have made them the benchmark for goose egg yield.

Tips

• Expect higher noise levels than other breeds; factor in neighbor proximity before committing
• Provide at least 40 sq ft of pasture per bird to support their natural foraging behavior
• Pair with a heavier breed if you also want meat production, since Chinese geese yield less carcass weight
