Maintain Correct Temperature (99.5°F - 100°F)

5

Set the incubator to 99.5°F (37.5°C) for forced-air models or 100-101°F (37.8-38.3°C) measured at egg-top level for still-air models. Monitor with a calibrated thermometer placed at egg height, not on the incubator floor or lid.

Why It Works

Quail embryos develop optimally within a narrow temperature band. Temperatures above 102°F cause deformities and early death; temperatures below 98°F slow development and reduce hatch rates. Even 1°F sustained deviation can cut hatchability by 10-20%.

Tips

  • Check temperature at least twice daily and after any power interruption.
  • Place the incubator in a room with stable ambient temperature (65-75°F) away from windows and vents.
  • Use a backup thermometer to cross-verify the built-in sensor.
