Locate Housing Away from Neighbors

4

Position the quail enclosure as far as possible from neighboring property lines, bedrooms, and outdoor living areas. Use existing structures like sheds, garages, or fences as sound barriers between the coop and neighbors.

Why It Works

Sound intensity drops with distance — doubling the distance reduces perceived volume by roughly 6 dB. Solid structures between the source and the listener block and absorb sound waves. A quail coop placed 15 meters from a neighbor behind a shed will be significantly quieter than one placed 5 meters away with no barrier.

Tips

  • Place the coop on the side of your property farthest from neighboring bedrooms
  • Use your own house or garage as a sound buffer between the coop and neighbors
  • Check local ordinances for minimum setback distances — many require 3–10 meters from property lines
