Use a rice cooker for foolproof results

5

Add rinsed rice and water to a rice cooker using its included measuring cup (note: rice cooker cups are 180ml, not 240ml). Press the cook button. The machine detects when water is absorbed and switches to "keep warm" automatically. No timing, no watching, perfect rice every time.

Why It Works

Rice cookers use a temperature sensor to detect when all water has been absorbed (the pot temperature rises above 212°F/100°C). This makes overcooking physically impossible. It is the method billions of people in Asia rely on daily.

Tips

  • A basic rice cooker ($20-30) produces excellent results for most people
  • Zojirushi and Tiger fuzzy-logic models ($80-150) handle multiple rice types and textures
  • Use the lines marked inside the pot for water levels rather than measuring separately
  • Let rice rest on "keep warm" for 10 minutes before serving for the best texture
